How to: Start a Bullet Journal

I can't believe it's been one whole month since my last blog post!

Year 12 has been pretty full on so far which is why I haven't had a spare moment for blogging. But since I finished my weekend homework, I was able to shoot + write up a quick post for you all.

This past month I discovered something called 'Bullet Journaling' where you create your own diary/ journal, completely customised to suit your own needs. I've always found that diary/ planners that I buy never have enough room for all of my lists, tasks and ideas so when I came across the idea of creating my own, I was instantly sold. It's pretty simple to make your own, all you need is a blank notebook, a pen and that's about it! I used a spare notebook I had lying around at home but they are cheap to purchase from a local newsagent, craft store or stationary shop. Today I thought I'd walk you through my bullet journal so far to give you some ideas if you are interested in creating your own!
Just so you know, I've only been using one for 2 weeks so I'm still working it all out.

Pages 1 + 2 are an index where I add in all of the pages I create as I go! This makes it easy to go back and find pages without having to flick through the whole journal.

I then have a yearly calendar which I hand drew but you could always print one off. I've left a page for my 2016 goals but haven't had a chance to add them in yet.

I then have a page for expenses + saving goals which I haven't finished yet.

I got this idea from Kara over at Boho Berry. It's a spread of the 10 key areas of my life and the ultimate goal is to increase your satisfaction in each of the 10 focus areas.

This is my February spread which has key events such as birthdays, dinners + appointments. On the side I have put my February goals, as well as a preview of March.

The February tracker I also found on Boho Berry where you write daily/ weekly tasks you would like to get done and shade the box if you complete a task that day.

The 1000 hours of study spread I created to keep myself on track with study. Every time I complete 1 hour of study, I add a coloured box to the relevant subject and aim is that by the end of the year, I will have 1000 boxes!

Next I have a collection of memories from January and I hope to do one of these each month on the month just passed.

I also have a page for anything that I'm waiting on to arrive in the mail.

I have been encouraged, through school, to do a gratitude log for many years now and I finally got around to doing it! It's such a nice way to finish the day by thinking through all of the good things that happened that day and coming up with the top 2 (I've actually found 2 to be very hard)!

This is my first page of dailies, where I put the date, day of the week, weather, highest and lowest temperature, appointments and any homework I get that day.

I then also wrote out a quote I've been loving (inspired by a picture I found on Pinterest).

I can't remember where I got this idea from but I've actually been keeping up to date with it (surprisingly). At the start of the month, I drew up a table + wrote out random categories and then each day I do a drawing (I'm a bit behind on colouring them in though).

I keep all of my exam results in my journal so I can see my progress over the year.
I also created a spread of documentaries I'd like to watch.

After this are more dailies and to do lists.

I hope this has helped you or maybe even inspired you to start your own!
If you do make one, I'd love to see a picture.

Have a wonderful week,
G

  1. I just looove the idea of starting a bullet journal, especially now after I saw yours. ;) I really like your handwriting. :)
I think, I might start a journal as well, even though I don't think I will manage to keep up with it. You seem to spend a lot of time working on it, which I imagine to be pretty hard.
Anyways, great idea. I really feel inspired now, thank you. :)

    1. Yay - I'm glad you liked the post!

I will only spend about 10 - 15 minutes on my journal a day! When I started, I went through the first pages and put sticky notes, writing on each one what I wanted where and then started my dailies (by just writing out the following day). Then when I have time to draw something up in the earlier pages I will! I still have earlier pages with sticky notes for when I have time to draw them out.

      Good luck!

      Have a great week,
      xx Georgia
